Black is considered one of the most powerful colours in the world. It has been associated with many different things like rebellion or authority, mourning or celebration, casualty or exclusivity. Black is dramatic, sophisticated and mysterious. From exclusive black-tie events, the famous ‘’little black dress’’ and full black suits to every day clothing- colour black has been with us through many ages and events.
Before synthetic dye, black was worn by monks or Europe’s wealthiest royalties. It was hard to produce black clothing by using only nature’s sources and that made black clothing more exclusive than ever. Now black is available for everyone in many forms, textures and fabrics and is the most popular choice of colour for clothing.
So why do we still feel like black is something exclusive?
While for some colour black means something restrictive, conservative and monotonous, many fashion lovers have found out that expressing the beauty of black is possible through different shapes and fabrics. Colourful clothing speaks for itself, but the best way to appreciate the true feeling that the garment has, as well as its shape, architecture and texture, can be possible only by having it in black.
For the past few years, we have seen the popularity of the already famous colour growing even more. From Alaïa to Valentino- many brands have been playing with the mystery of black by choosing black head-to-toe looks or even whole collections. This means that those who haven’t gotten the chance to appreciate the magic of black, now can dive into the world of shapes, silhouettes and fashion-architecture.
Studio MX has had a true love with the colour black for many years. Only recently our brand started to experiment with different colours, but the love to the colour black remained and still remains the same! Our signature portree blouses are a good example how the architecture of a clothing can express itself because of black. Other garments like Calla dresses, black maxi dress, ‘’all loved’’ satin skirt and many more would be unimaginable without the black version of them. We love to combine different textures of black to fully show the potential that this colour has!
Black is like a blank page. But not in a beige or bland way. Black is an expression. Black is a way to show the rebellion of rock stars or punks, but, ironically, it is also the most formal colour in the world. Black feels infinitive. It’s like a base on which everyone can build on their feelings, individuality and uniqueness. There are no limits when it comes to black.
Black is a classic. People have loved it for many years and it will hold its role in fashion for many more. We truly hope that the love and positive associations with the colour black will only grow!
